New coach plans to improve women’s basketball

July 06 — After a four-year stint at the University of San Francisco, new Metro women’s basketball Head Coach Tanya Haave is taking the reins of the program — with a slightly different approach.

Rugby finds home in Rockies

June 23 — On May 19 Colorado became part of the second biggest sport in the world’s community, as Lt. Governor Barbara O’Brien proclaimed June Colorado Rugby Month at Infinity Park in Glendale. Rugby, a game that resembles football and smear the, uh, one with the ball, is the second most popular sport on Earth next to soccer. Played much like a free-flowing football game with soccer rules, rugby is a violent madman’s sport created from soccer.

Softball continues winning ways

June 23 — In only its third year since being reinstated at Metro, the Roadrunner softball team not only continued to dominate the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference but also finished the season ranked fourth after the first College World Series appearance in school history.

Senior leaves mark on program

June 23 — Softball senior second baseman Sarah Rusch has been a constant the team can count on since the sport was reinstated at Metro in 2008. The second-team All-RMAC second baseman was a force to be reckoned with at the plate during her final season in a Roadrunner uniform.

June 23 — The Metro track and field teams finished a physically and emotionally tough season May 27-29 at the NCAA Division II Track and Field National Championships in Charlotte, N.C., after dealing with an abundance of adversity.
