August 18 — Michael Shannon has the most frighteningly psychotic face in cinema today. After watching the Werner Herzog directed crime film “My son, my son, what have ye done?” it is pretty clear. The film is loosely based on the true story of a man who basically lost all of his senses and then slayed his mother with a saber. David Lynch produces this noirish mystery.

August 13 — “The Expendables” will seem very familiar to those who, like me, grew up watching the films of the ’80s that stared Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jean Claude Van Dam and/or Dolph Lundgren. At its core, this movie is an action-adventure piece reminiscent of war films like “Kelly’s Heroes” or “The Great Escape,” which also featured an ensemble cast of all-stars of their day.
